Enduring SAG[a]

SAG-AFTRA and the WGA (actors' and writers' unions) have made the tough decision to strike against the AMPTP (movie studios, big streaming corporations, etc.). In part 1 of 2 exploring the actors’ and writers’ strikes, I talked to SAG member Marie Cecile Anderson-- an actor, comedian, and musician based in Nashville-- about the decision, demands, and what life is looking like in the interim.

In part 2, I talked to IATSE member Nicole Suerez Jones about how the Hollywood strikes (& AMPTP’s greed, irrationality etc) are affecting the whooole entertainment industry, including folks w/o a seat at the table. I also learned that costume designers are the lowest paid bc it’s a traditionally female profession 🙃

The entertainment industry negotiations foreshadow the labor disputes of the present/future, re: what worker rights look like in an AI-driven gig economy. You know what I say?

If these workers can’t take the heat, why don’t they just hurl themselves out of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory?!

(Enjoy every sandwich and godspeed Jimmy Buffett, xxo)
